OpenVMS System Monitoring
OpenVMS Online System Manager (OSM™) is a proprietary monitoring tool designed and developed by PARSEC Group. OSM™ is designed as a 'set-and-forget' application as it is easy to forget it is doing its job once it has been installed.
The tool aids in the management, predictive maintenance and support of OpenVMS. There is two ways to use the tool:
- You can purchase outright the license for OSM™ and have your team monitor the infrastructure; or
- You can have PARSEC Group install the license(s) and have us monitor your environment for a nominal monthly fee, receive the alerts, make recommendations to have you take the corrective action or have PARSEC Group take the fix against a Block of Consulting Hours.
OSM™ monitors your system(s) 24x7x365 looking for exceptions to normal system behavior. The tool allows you to manage proactively, since it typically notifies you and/or PARSEC Group about abnormal system operations (which we call events) before they become catastrophic events. Management-by-exception saves time and headaches while increasing system control.
Once OSM™ detects an event, it will report that event to a specified party or parties via e-mail, Internet mail to a centralized location and/or through a pager. OSM™ will optionally execute a user-supplied batch file to automatically handle the event. By kicking off a user-supplied batch file, OSM™ has a chance to correct the event before it becomes a failure. Sending the event information to a central location is perfect for large organizations that has a centralized management team. All of the events go to one place (the management team) which eliminates the need for someone to physically go to the individual node in the network.
